1992 marks the five hundredth anniversary of COLUMBUS' discovery of the Americas - a year of celebration for many. But what about the people who inhabited the land for thousands of years - the indigenous American Indians? They feel they have nothing to celebrate. This major three-part series looks at their history and questions what their future is in the now white dominated continent. The removal of the Indians land and culture has led to the extinction of whole tribes. In the first 100 years after COLUMBUS' arrival, their numbers were reduced through war and disease by ninety per cent and now some have become little more than tourist attractions. Explores how modern Indian people are fighting for their lives, their livelihoods, their lands and their political rights. A Central Television production made with the co-operation of the Film Board of Canada.
