A moving and intimate portrait of the late Nelson Mandela, filmed on the campaign trail which resulted in his election as President of a liberated South Africa. The programme explores the 75 year-old's strengths and weaknesses through interviews with some of his closest friends and relatives, examining the motivation behind his years of struggle, self-sacrifice and hardship. Includes interviews with his estranged wife Winnie, and shows him campaigning in Natal, addressing militant supporters in Ivory Park squatter camp, outside Johannesburg.
