The Millennium Development Goals were to be achieved by 2015:
Less waste, clean water and education for all children.
Some things have worked out, but poverty still prevails. Children are no longer allowed to work at garbage dumps, but they are now vendors in the cities at night. Even though this is forbidden, it is ignored by the local police. Often, the mindset and poverty of the parents lead to work being seen as more important than the children's education.
The crazy thing about this situation is that, by definition, neither the child vendors nor the people living in a slum under terrible conditions fall under the poverty line.
