Bill Gates is currently financially backing the development of sun-dimming technology, with the idea that Sunlight would be reflected from Earth's atmosphere, which hypothetically should cool down the planet. The Stratospheric Controlled Perturbation Experiment, funded by Bill Gates and launched by Harvard University scientists, wants to spray these chemicals into our atmosphere. The scientists have said that this in turn would create a massive chemical cloud that would help bring down the temperature of the Earth's surface.
