My mom and I got to the Mall at 8pm and spent all night with the lovely people who came from all over the world to watch the coronation! It was a once in a generation experience to see history live! It was also rather wet and miserable, and the crowds and event organization were chaotic and frustrating. I felt like a medieval peasant fighting for my cup of wine at the coronation of Richard II! But we did it! Sorry about the shaking camera work, sound and editing. I did the best I could with short time and no sleep and I'm always learning. Not like the smooth, close shots you'll see on TV. But this is a view from the trenches! Thank you to all the wonderful people I met, who allowed me to film them and share their coronation experience! After 38 hours awake and walking 4 miles around street closures to get back to our hotel, I was not up to editing and crashed! But here is my experience the day after, I hope you enjoy it!

How did marketing history turn into propaganda?

The term "propaganda" was first used in 1879 when German sociologist Max Weber coined the word from the Greek word "praopagos" which means "to speak well." The Latin verb "propere", meaning "nearby" and "at hand", and the noun “agogos,” meaning "speech, discourse," are the origins of the term. It is "a systematic attempt to shape attitudes and behavior."

George Orwell, British journalist and author of "Propaganda," wrote that propaganda was not intended to convince people to believe anything. He only wanted to change their beliefs...

Edward Bernays (1891 –1955), who was Sigmund Fréud's nephew. The psychoanalyst and nephew of Sigmund Freud became famous after he invented "public relations" back in 1922. He believed that "the conscious, intelligent manipulation of organized habits and opinions is an important component of a democratic country." He started the public relations agency "Bernays & Company", where he remained until 1955.

Bernays' "engineering consent" technique was developed in the 1920s and 1950s. It involves influencing public opinion by using publicity campaigns and advertising. His techniques were later adopted and used by mass media organizations such as Time Magazine. CBS News. NBC News. Newsweek. Bernays started working closely with government agencies and corporations after World War II. His clients included Johnson & Johnson and General Electric as well as Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola.

His most notable client was the tobacco industry. Philip Morris, who he assisted in developing a campaign against smoking was the most prominent client. The campaign resulted from the SurgeonGeneral recommending that smoking be banned indoors. In 1965, the Cigarette Advertising Act was adopted. This bans any cigarette advertisement in print media such as newspapers and television.

He also gave advice to President Franklin D Roosevelt about how to manage the growing labor movement during Great Depression. As the popularity of radio increased, Bernays started promoting the idea of "radio listening" to increase sales of radios. He also introduced the concept of "branding" and "advertising" in the early 1930s. He believed that people could be influenced if they appealed to their emotions and made them feel special. For example, he promoted the slogan "Have you got what it takes?" in 1933, encouraging women to buy war bonds.

In 1944, he established the political action committee "Young People for Freedom". This group had one goal: to encourage Americans aged between 18 and 30 to vote Republican. Dwight Eisenhower was elected president in 1952 after Bernays' efforts were successful.

In 1953, Bernays persuaded the CIA to stage a coup in Iran, replacing Mohammad Mosaddegh with Shah Reza Pahlevi. This was to stop Mosaddegh acquiring Iranian oilfields. Bernays published articles after the coup praising the new regime for being "moderate", "progressive,"and "modernized".

Bernays was the recipient of many other awards over his entire career.
