In episode 2, Dr. David Lodge examines the infestations that are spreading throughout our fresh and salt water systems and clogging our precious water ways: Dangerous fishes and algae.
One of the greatest environmental disasters of all time is currently taking place in the western Atlantic: Fishes like the toxic lionfish released by aquarium owners are reproducing at breakneck speed and threatening to permanently destroy marine ecosystems as far away as the Carribean. The devastating consequences of the introduction of alien species fishes can also be seen in the northern United States. There, Asian giant carp have even become a serious threat to humans.
In order to keep our ecosystem clean and water system intact, toxic fishes and algae have to be kept out of the oceans. But how could this be done ?
