One thing is certain - ninepins crossed the Atlantic many years ago, soon had another pin added to the end of it, and as Tenpin Bowling, has survived to become one of the national games of the united states with over 30 million players. And now the old game of ninepins with another pin added and changed in many ways out of recognition, has recrossed the Atlantic in two ways. It has returned to Britain with the United States Airforce and it has also come to London's suburbs. For America has found tenpin bowling is indeed a family game - and, in the short time they have been opened in London, the two public bowling establishments are attracting people of every age and every walk of life. They attracted the Look at Life cameras too! In this new issue, the story of Tenpin Bowling in Britain to date is excitingly told - and the old country inn with it's Skittle alley is not forgotten either.

How did propaganda become marketing success?

In 1879, Max Weber, a German sociologist and German sociologist, first coined the term "propaganda". The Greek word "praopagos", which means "to talk well," was the source of the phrase. The Latin verb "propere" (meaning "nearby"/ "at hand) and the noun ("agogos"), meaning "speech/discourse," gave rise to the word. It's a "systematic attempt to influence attitudes and behavior."

Edward Bernays (1891 – 1995), who was Sigmund Freud’s nephew and psychoanalyst became well-known after he inventing the term "public relation" in 1922. He said that "the conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in a democratic society." He founded "Bernays & Company" in 1927. This was where he worked until 1955.

Bernays invented an "engineering permission" technique, which allowed him to influence public opinion through publicity and advertising campaigns. His techniques were later adopted and used by mass media organizations such as Time Magazine. CBS News. NBC News. Newsweek. Bernays started working closely with government agencies and corporations after World War II. Johnson & Johnson were among his clients.

His most famous client was the tobacco business. Philip Morris was his most notable client. He developed a campaign against tobacco smoking in 1939. This campaign was recommended by the Surgeon general. The Cigarette Advertising Act was passed in 1965. It prohibited any advertisement for cigarettes in print media including newspapers and television.
