Elizabeth I of England and Ireland reigned for 45 years over a golden age of peace, prosperity and flourishing art and culture. And she shocked the medieval world by doing it all without a man. But that certainly wasn’t for lack of proposals. Elizabeth had at least 16 suitors in her lifetime. In her youth men were eager to take advantage of her and their ambitions landed Elizabeth in the tower of London. But when she was Queen, Elizabeth turned the table on the many men eager to win her hand. She played them against each other and dangled herself as a prize they could never quite win. Over this 2 part series we’ll meet the English Lords and European royals who pursued her majesty, and the one man she truly loved through it all. And examine that age old question, was the virgin Queen really a virgin?

Frequently Asked Questions

Who said that history doesn't teach the ignorant?

While we all would love to live in an ideal world that everyone learns from past mistakes, it is not possible to learn from our own mistakes.

You can't learn anything better than trying it wrong.

It is a mistake to not do it correctly the first time.

Changes are inevitable, and you will eventually realize why you made them.

You may even find that you could do it better the second time.

It doesn't mean that you shouldn't continue to try. You've learned a lot.

Although you might not be able make every mistake, it is possible to minimize them. This is the difference between success, and failure.

It all starts with acknowledging your mistakes. Then look at them objectively and ask yourself: "What did I learn?"

You'll find that mistakes can be viewed as lessons if you are honest with yourself. They're learning experiences that can help you grow.

Thomas Edison had to go through the exact same thing. He failed many times before inventing the light bulb.

He didn't let his failures discourage him. Instead, each failure was an opportunity to improve his design.

He also invented the most widely used form of lighting, which is still in use today.

So, if you fail, don't get discouraged. Learn from your errors. Take advantage of them.

You can then try again.

What do our mistakes teach us?

Do not worry too much about making mistakes. This means that you will learn something. Even more important, you can correct any mistakes you make. You shouldn't stress about the small details. We all make them.

Even though you may feel embarrassed after making a mistake it doesn't mean you have to feel guilty. It's how you deal with your mistakes that matters most. You will let your mistakes bother you. But if you view them as opportunities for growth, you'll come out stronger on the other side.

Acknowledge and move past a mistake is the best way for you to overcome it. Don't dwell on it; instead, focus on the next step. Keep moving.

Don't obsess over your mistakes. Instead, try to find ways to improve. Learn from your mistakes and be better tomorrow.

Successful Inventions Made By Accident

Inventors make mistakes. How we deal with those mistakes is what determines whether our inventions succeed or fail.

It is a fact that invention does not happen by accident. Every invention was planned. An accidental invention is not possible.

Invention is an intentional act. An intention to create something. Something that solves a problem. A solution that improves the quality of life.

However, the key to creating a successful invention is understanding how nothing happens by accident. Instead of trying avoidable mistakes, learn from them.

Although it would be nice to think that invention is easy, it's not. Invention requires hard work and persistence. It's not a quick fix. It takes time.

That means that you will have to spend much time thinking about issues and new ideas. What are people interested in? What do they want?

Ask yourself these questions. These questions will help guide you in deciding what kind of product/service you should develop next.

To do this, you have to put aside any preconceived notions. You should not make assumptions about the world's needs or wants. You must listen to your customers and potential clients.

It is important to find out what your clients want. It is not what they think they want.

Once you have identified what they want, the next step is to design a way that you can give it to them. This is where invention comes in.

Is it possible to learn from the past and not repeat past mistakes?

History repeats itself, because we continue to make the same mistakes repeatedly. We fail to learn from our mistakes. We don't change. We become complacent. We settle in mediocrity.

History also repeats itself because we keep believing the same old stories. Our culture has conditioned us to believe there is an immutable law and a fixed truth. We cannot change them.

This is a way to stop us from thinking critically. From questioning authority. By challenging assumptions. We can't learn if we don’t challenge our assumptions. We stagnate if we don’t move forward. Stamina is when we continue to make the same mistakes.

However, history does not repeat itself because we keep making the same mistakes. History repeats itself when we refuse to learn from past mistakes and instead keep repeating them.

By changing your outlook on the world and understanding that there is no set way, you can break the cycle. Nothing is fixed. Everything is subject to constant flux.

Uncertainty is key to breaking the cycle. Accepting that things may go wrong. Accepting that failure may be possible. Accepting that failure is possible.

Accept that you may never achieve your goals. Accept that you may not achieve your goals. However, it is important to keep working towards improving.

Holding on to the past will keep you stuck. You'll never move forward if you cling to the idea that there are fixed truths.

You must let go if you want to be free. If you want to progress, you have to give up control.

What are some lessons learned from history?

There are three lessons we've learned from history. First, you must do it yourself when you change the world. The second is to ensure that people are ready to accept change in their lives. Third, the future must be better if you want to change it.

The first lesson we can learn is that there are only two ways to transform the world. The first is to fight for it. The second is to make it happen. When you fight for it, you focus on winning and lose sight of why you started fighting in the first place.

You can't control how people react to your ideas, but you can control how you present them. If you want to persuade someone, you'll eventually fail. If you try to convince someone to do something, you will fail.

Every great movement began with someone who had an idea and decided that they would act on it. It doesn't matter if you're trying to create change or react to it. These are the rules that will help you make an impact.

Second, we have the ability to choose. We can either allow our lives to unfold, or choose to create them. This means that it is up to us to decide how we want our lives to be. Is it better to decide what kind of life we want or wait for someone else? Or, do we want control of our destiny and take control?

I'd argue that we're living in a golden age right now. We have more opportunities than ever before which is creating excitement. People feel empowered to make their own futures and that's very exciting.

It also presents a problem. It's hard to know what you want.

Let's suppose you want to buy your first house. You could sit back and hope someone gives you a gift certificate to Home Depot. You can also ask yourself: "What would my dream job be?" You can then search for a job where you can do it. Finally, apply for financing.

Now let's imagine you wanted to travel around the world. The question you might be asking yourself is "Where do I want go?" You might then start saving money and researching other countries online. Then, you book a trip.

Let's assume you didn't really know what you wanted. You'd likely end up doing one of these things anyway. You can increase your chances to get what you want by asking these questions. It may seem silly, but it works.

The third lesson is to never lose sight of the possibility of improving the future. It is very simple. Our choices impact who we become and who we are.

Use history to your advantage, to learn from other people's failures and successes and to keep improving until success.

If you don't believe you have something to offer the world, you're already behind. You have to believe in yourself.

Start with what you already know. Start small and move on. Take stock of the lessons you've learned in your entire life. Which areas have you struggled with? Which areas have you excelled? What have you done to overcome obstacles?

Last but not least, remember that no one can stop you from reaching your full potential. No matter what others say, you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to.

Benjamin Franklin wrote, "Nothing works unless you do."
