Dried-Up Lake Reveals a Forgotten Oregon Town.
In the 1950s, the village of Old Detroit was deserted and sunk in a reservoir. The West's epic drought, which has lasted more than four years, has just revealed a surprise in northern Oregon. The abandoned village of Old Detroit has resurfaced beneath Detroit Lake, which had record low water levels in 2015.
Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Dave Zahn was travelling along the reservoir in October when he came across an 1870s wagon partially immersed in the muck. Detroit Lake was 143 feet below capacity at the time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Can We Learn From Abraham Lincoln?
Abraham Lincoln stated, "I am slow learner; I am quick to forget."
He understood the importance of learning and knew that he would eventually need to let go of old habits in order to embrace new ones.
The same is true of our businesses. No matter how much we plan for success in the future, there will always be times when we are unable to move forward and end up stuck in a rut.
It is crucial to continue to learn and grow. If we do nothing else, we must continue to learn, even after we reach the pinnacle of success.
Lincoln had the right mindset. He realized that he could not stop learning, even though he was able to be more productive in his business.
There are two types: entrepreneurs. Those who stay busy and those who stay smart.
Those who stay busy focus solely on growing their business. They will be involved in product development, marketing strategies, customer service, or any other daily tasks.
They may feel accomplished, but they are often missing the mark. Entrepreneurs who aren't focused on learning more won't see sustainable growth.
What sets successful entrepreneurs apart? The ability to adapt quickly and to change circumstances.
When faced with challenges, successful entrepreneurs always look for ways to improve their existing products or services.
The average businessperson, however, will continue to use outdated methods that don't work. They are unwilling to change their course of action until their business collapses.
To succeed, you must master both the art of adaptation and self-reflection.
What is the most important thing you should know about history?
There is no easy answer to this question. There are three things to keep in mind when learning. First, knowledge is power. Second, knowledge is cumulative. We must also be able to appreciate the speed at which knowledge can change.
Knowledge is power because it empowers us to make better decisions and improve our lives. We would not have any trouble making decisions if our information was perfect. We would always do what we want without worrying about if it was right or wrong.
Knowledge is not only power but also cumulative. This means that once we've learned something, we continue to add more knowledge to our brains. As time passes, we get smarter and smarter. Knowledge accumulates.
Let's now turn our attention to the third. Knowledge is not static. Information is constantly changing. Every day scientists discover new facts, theories, ways of thinking. Every day, new discoveries are made.
Technology allows us to quickly access knowledge, and is crucial for our culture. Technology makes it possible to store vast amounts of data in digital form and share it among millions of people worldwide.
Globalization has transformed the way we see technology and knowledge. Globalization is the process of ideas and products spreading across borders. Globalization means that knowledge is accessible anywhere.
Anyone can access any information on the internet. Anyone can read books, watch movies, listen to music, play video games, and surf the web. All these activities require knowledge.
Knowledge is becoming more accessible but also more specialized. For example, if you go online today, you'll find hundreds of thousands of websites offering advice on topics such as health, finance, business, cooking, sports, and travel. These sites have information on every topic.
You'll find only a few sites that offer automotive-related services or products if your goal is to purchase a car online. Instead of finding thousands of sites covering every conceivable subject, you'll find only a handful covering cars.
This specialization is because experts in particular fields can create and distribute valuable knowledge. Experts often have a deep understanding of a particular field. They're also able to produce high-quality content that's targeted toward their specific audience.
This is great news for consumers as they no longer have to search through a lot of useless information. Instead, they can focus their attention on a handful of websites with lots of useful content.
Experts also gain from specialization, as they can create strong businesses around the expertise that they have. If someone purchases a book, they expect the author to be an expert in his field and to present a clear and concise explanation. He expects the author to understand his message.
An expert who does not specialize risks losing out to potential customers who expect him be knowledgeable.
There are many areas of expertise. Today, most of us are specialists in many different areas. We might be an accountant, a lawyer, a doctor, or a teacher. But we're also likely to be a parent, spouses, friends, and fans.
Specialization is so common that some experts argue that it's impossible to succeed without being an expert in several different things.
So how do you become an expert in multiple areas? The answer is simple: practice. You've got to put in the hours necessary to learn something. Once you've made progress, keep going until people are able to recognize your knowledge.
Nowadays, there are entire industries devoted to helping others achieve this goal. People can quickly learn through courses, workshops seminars, conferences, schools and other venues.
What lessons can be learned from history?
Three lessons can be learned from history. To change the world, you have to do it all yourself. Second, it is essential to prepare people for change if you want to transform their lives. You can only change the future if it is better.
The first lesson is to recognize that there are two options for changing the world. One is to fight for it; the other is to create it. Fighting for it is about winning, not remembering why you started fighting.
While you cannot control their reactions to your ideas or how they present them, you can influence how they are presented. If you try to convince someone, you will fail. However, if you are determined to motivate someone to take action, you will succeed.
Most great movements began because somebody had an idea and decided to act upon it. Whether you are creating change or responding to it, these are the three best ways to make your mark. Be clear about what is important to you, be open about where you came from, and dare to go where no one else has.
The second lesson is the fact that we all have the power to make our lives better. Either we wait for the right circumstances to unfold or we can make them happen. This means that it is up to us to decide how we want our lives to be. Are we content to wait for someone else's approval to let us live? Or do we want to take charge of our destiny?
I believe we are living in a golden era. There's more opportunity than ever before, creating a lot of excitement. People feel empowered to create their futures, and that's exciting.
This creates a problem. Because not everyone knows exactly what they want or even how to get it, it's important to figure out what you want and find a way to get it.
Let's take, for example, the desire to purchase a house. Or you could just sit back and wait for someone to give you a gift card to Home Depot. You could also ask yourself "What would you love to do?" Find a job that will allow you to do it. Apply for financing.
Now, let's say you wanted to travel the world. You might ask yourself, "Where do I want to go?" You might then start saving money and researching other countries online. The final step is to book a flight.
Let's pretend you didn’t know what your goal was. You would most likely do one of these things. You can increase your chances to get what you want by asking these questions. It may seem odd, but it works.
The third lesson is that regardless of what happens next, there are always ways to improve the future. This is because it's simple. Our choices affect who and what we become.
So the trick is to use history as a guide, to learn from others' mistakes and successes, and keep improving until you succeed.
If you don’t feel you have any value to the world, you are already behind. You have to believe in yourself.
You don't need to know everything in order to start. Start small and then build on it. Reflect on the lessons that you've taken from your experiences throughout your life. Which areas have you struggled with? Which areas have you excelled? What have you done to overcome obstacles?
Don't forget to remember that only you can limit your potential. No matter what anyone says, you can do anything you put your mind to.
Benjamin Franklin said, "Nothing will be successful unless you do."
What do our mistakes show us?
When you make a mistake, don't worry about it too much because it's a learning experience. It will teach you something. Even more important, you can correct any mistakes you make. You shouldn't stress about the small details. We all make them.
You might feel embarrassed if you've made a mistake, but it doesn't matter whether you feel bad. How you handle your mistakes is what matters most. You will let your mistakes bother you. But if you view them as opportunities for growth, you'll come out stronger on the other side.
It is important to recognize and learn from your mistakes. Don't dwell on it; instead, focus on the next step. Keep moving.
You don't need to dwell on your errors. Instead, find ways to improve. Learn from your mistakes to improve your future.
Successful Inventions Made By Accident
Inventors make mistakes. However, how we react to these mistakes will determine whether or not our inventions are great successes.
Invention is not an accident. Each invention was created intentionally. There is no such thing as an accidental invention.
An invention is a deliberate act. Intentionally making something new. A solution to a problem. Someone's quality of life will be improved.
The key to success is not assuming that everything happens by accident. Instead of trying to avoid mistakes, learn from them.
We would love to tell you that invention is simple, but it's not. Invention takes persistence and hard work. It's not a quick fix. It takes time.
This means that you need to spend lots of time thinking about solutions and ideas. What do people care about? What do they require?
These are the questions you need to ask. These questions will help you decide what type of product or service to develop next.
This is possible only if you let go any preconceived notions. All assumptions about the world's wants and needs. You must listen to your customers and potential clients.
They must learn what they are looking for. You must learn what they really want.
Once you've figured out what they want, you have to devise a way to give it to them. Here's where invention really begins.
