The Oxyrhynchus Papyri are a series of manuscripts, giving insights into some ancient civilisations. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, two papyrologists, Bernard Pyne Grenfell and Arthur Surridge Hunt, uncovered this collection of manuscripts in Egypt. As professors of Papyrology, the pair research, analyse and study ancient literature, presented and persevered as a manuscript, that has been recorded on papyrus. Papyrus was the sole most common writing material used within ancient civilisations, including ancient Egypt, so those who study it are aware of the society, culture and languages of these ancient societies.
