Series in which historian Bettany Hughes and Ben Robinson presents a unique look at Britain's past by taking to the air in a bid to unlock secrets hidden in the landscape. This edition visits the plains of Wiltshire to investigate the story of the ghost town of Old Sarum or old Salisbury, one of William the Conqueror's most important strongholds. But why was it abandoned and the brand new city of Salisbury built from scratch two miles away? The aerial clues reveal the lumps and bumps of this unusual site allowing Bettany to unearth a story of Saxon kings and Norman conquerors and the birth of the Domesday book. A very public and bitter battle between the church and the military resulted in the death of a city.
