This is the last known photo of the Space Shuttle Challenger crew boarding the space shuttle. On January 28th, 1986, the Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, ending the lives of all seven crew members. After investigations took place, it was revealed that the cause of the disaster was the failure of two rubber O-rings, which was meant to seal a joint between the two lower segments of the rocket booster.
