How did propaganda become marketing history?

When Max Weber, German sociologus and German sociologist came up with the term propaganda from the Greek phrase "praopagos", the word means "to speak well", the term was first used. The Latin verb "propere", meaning "nearby" and "at hand", and the noun “agogos,” meaning "speech, discourse," are the origins of the term. It is a systematic attempt at shaping attitudes and behaviors.

George Orwell, British journalist wrote in "Propaganda," a 1928 book that he published. "To understand the true nature and purpose of propaganda, it is not the intention make people believe any thing; it is only to change their beliefs... It is designed to make them agree with one thing instead of the other."

Edward Bernays (1891 –1955) was Sigmund Freud’s nephew. In 1922, he coined the term "public Relations". He stated that the conscious and intelligent manipulations of the organized opinions and habits of the masses was an essential element of a democratic society. He established the public relations company "Bernays & Company" where he worked up to 1955.

Bernays created an "engineering consent” technique that influenced public opinion via advertising and publicity campaigns from the 1920s through the 1950s. His techniques were later adopted and used by mass media organizations such as Time Magazine. CBS News. NBC News. Newsweek. Bernays became a close collaborator with corporations and government agencies in order to influence public opinion after World War II. Johnson & Johnson were among his clients.
