Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most important thing you should know about history?
This question doesn't have an easy answer. Learning is about three things. The first is to realize that knowledge can be power. Second, it is important to recognize that knowledge is cumulative. Third, we must appreciate how quickly knowledge changes.
Knowledge is power. This empowers us with the knowledge we need to make better decisions and live better lives. We wouldn't have any problems making decisions if we had perfect information. We would always do exactly what we wanted without worrying about whether it was right or wrong.
Knowledge is not only power but also cumulative. This means that after we've acquired knowledge, we continue to learn more. As we get smarter, our brains become more sophisticated. Knowledge accumulates.
Now, let's look at the third point. Knowledge isn't static. Knowledge is always changing. Every day, scientists discover new facts, theories, and ways of thinking. Every day, new discoveries are made.
Our culture is particularly dependent upon technology which allows us to access knowledge instantly. Technology allows us to save vast amounts data and share it between millions of people across the globe.
Globalization has influenced the way we look at knowledge, in addition to technology. Globalization refers the process whereby ideas and products are spread across borders. Because of globalization, knowledge is now accessible everywhere.
The internet allows anyone to access information any where in the world. Anybody can access the internet to read, watch movies, listen and play music, as well as surf the net. Knowledge is required for all of these activities.
Although knowledge is becoming easier to access, it is also becoming more specific. You can find thousands of websites that offer advice on subjects such as finance, health, business, sports, and travel. These sites have information on every topic.
However, if you search online for automotive-related products and services, there are only a handful of sites. There will not be thousands of sites that cover every subject. You'll only find a handful of sites that specialize in cars.
Experts in particular fields have the ability to share and create value. This is why experts in these areas are so popular. Experts often have a deep understanding of a particular field. Experts are also skilled at producing content that is relevant to their target audience.
This is great news for consumers as they no longer have to search through a lot of useless information. Instead, they can rely on a limited number of websites that offer lots of valuable content.
Experts also gain from specialization, as they can create strong businesses around the expertise that they have. The buyer of a book expects the author will be knowledgeable enough to explain the subject clearly and concisely. He wants to be confident that the author understands his message.
Experts who do not specialize risk losing potential customers.
It's not necessary to be a specialist in only one area. Most people are experts in multiple areas today. One might be an accountant, lawyer, doctor, teacher, or other specialist. Not only are we likely to be a parent or spouse, but also friends, family, and fans.
Experts agree that it is impossible to succeed in one area without being skilled in another.
So how can you become an expert across multiple fields? It's simple: practice. It's necessary to work hard to learn. As you make progress, you must keep going until you are recognized as an expert.
There are whole industries dedicated to helping others reach this goal. People can quickly learn through courses, workshops seminars, conferences, schools and other venues.
What lessons can history teach us?
There are three lessons we've learned from history. The first is that you have to do it yourself if you want to change the world. Second, it is essential to prepare people for change if you want to transform their lives. Third, when you change the future, you have to make it better.
The first lesson is that you can change the world in two ways. One is fighting for it, the other is creating it. Fighting for it is about winning, not remembering why you started fighting.
You cannot control what people think, but you can make sure they like the way you present them. If you try to convince someone, you will fail. If you try to convince someone to do something, you will fail.
Every great movement began with someone who had an idea and decided that they would act on it. No matter whether you are creating change, or reacting to it. Here are three ways you can make your mark: Be clear about the things you want, be honest with where you came from, be courageous enough to go where no other person has gone before, and be clear about who you are.
The second lesson is that we all have a choice. Either we wait for the right circumstances to unfold or we can make them happen. This means we need to choose what kind of life you want. Do we expect someone else to let us live? Or, do we want control of our destiny and take control?
I'd argue that we're living in a golden age right now. We have more opportunities than ever before which is creating excitement. It's exciting to see people feel empowered to shape their future.
It can also cause problems. It's hard to know what you want.
Let's take, for example, the desire to purchase a house. You could either sit back and expect someone to gift you a Home Depot gift certificate. Or you could ask yourself, "What would I love to do?" Next, find a job that allows you to do this. Then, you can apply for financing.
Let's pretend you want to travel all over the globe. You might ask yourself, "Where do I want to go?" You'd then begin saving money, researching different countries online and speaking with friends. The final step is to book a flight.
Let's assume you didn't really know what you wanted. If that were the case, you would probably do one of those things anyway. This is how you can increase your chances for getting what you want. It may seem odd, but it works.
The third lesson is the ability to always improve the future, regardless of what happens next. It is very simple. Your choices influence who you are and what you become.
The trick to success is to look back at history and learn from their mistakes and successes.
You're already behind if you don't think you have anything to offer the world. You must believe in yourself and that you are more than you believed.
If you don't know where to begin, start with what you know. Start small and move on. Look back at the things you've done throughout your lifetime. What have you failed to do? What has been your greatest success? How have you overcome obstacles?
Finally, remember that the only person who can limit your potential is you. No matter how much anyone tells, you can achieve anything you set your mind.
Benjamin Franklin once said that "Nothing will work without you."
What are three things you can learn from history?
History is filled with examples of how mistakes can be learned from. These lessons can be applied today to business problems and used as opportunities for growth.
The past has taught us that there is always a better way. There are always people out there who think outside the box and take risks that make them stand out.
History also shows us that it's often the underdogs who succeed. You can look back at those times when the underdog won.
Look to the past and find ways to bring the lessons forward into the future. Learn from others' successes and failures.
These lessons will help you increase your success rate.
Who originally said those who don't learn from history?
We all wish to live in a world where everyone learns from the past, but there are more valuable things than learning from our mistakes.
The best way to learn how to do something correctly is to actually experience it.
The biggest mistake you can make is not ensuring that it goes right the first and only time.
You'll eventually discover why you made the changes if you continue to make them.
You might even discover that you could have done it better the first time.
You shouldn't give up on trying again. That's a sign that you have learned a lot.
While you may not be able avoid making mistakes, there are ways to minimize them. This is the difference that makes the difference of success and failure.
Acknowledging your mistakes begins the process. Look at them objectively and ask: "What can I learn?"
Your mistakes will only be lessons if your honesty is honest. They are learning opportunities.
Thomas Edison went through exactly the same thing. He failed many other times before he inventing the lightbulb.
He didn't let his failures discourage him. Instead, each failure was an opportunity to improve his design.
He also invented the most widely used form of lighting, which is still in use today.
So, if you fail, don't get discouraged. Learn from your mistakes. These are your opportunities to learn.
You can then try again.

How To
Accidental discoveries lead to the discovery of penicillin
How did penicillin ever become available?
Alexander Fleming accidentally discovered penicillin after noticing mold growing on bacteria cultures that he had not kept. He believed that mold might kill the bacteria and therefore he attempted to find a solution.
He found that penicillin killed the mold, and then he realized that this new substance could also help fight infections caused by bacteria. The discovery penicillin was one among the most significant medical advances ever. It saved millions and changed medicine forever.
At first, Alexander Fleming didn't know that his finding would be so important. The other person didn't know the same. Penicillin was a powerful antibiotic that no one had ever imagined.
Scientists discovered penicillin could be used to treat bacterial infections, but this was not until after World War II. In 1945, the U.S. Army contacted Dr. Fleming to see if penicillin could help soldiers who had been infected with deadly germs. Dr. Fleming accepted the offer.
Penicillin proved to be effective against many kinds of infections. It became a lifesaver for wounded soldiers during World War II. And it helped doctors save countless lives after the war.
Dr. Fleming was not prepared for his discovery to have such profound effects. He simply wanted to be sure that mold didn't thrive on the bacteria he had studied. He could not imagine that this simple experiment would lead him to such a miraculous medical breakthrough.
Many discoveries made every day aren't really remarkable. These are just experiments that were made for no specific reason.
If you look back at history, you will see that even seemingly insignificant experiments can make a huge difference.
The most important discoveries are those that seem to have absolutely nothing in common. The discovery of penicillin is an example. Or photography. Or electricity. Or even computers.
It doesn't happen just because someone has an idea. It happens because someone is faced with a problem. Then, they try to solve the problem through experimentation.
