The Byzantine Empire or Eastern Roman Empire was the continuation of the Roman Empire and fell in an last epic battle. Constantinople was not only the capital of the last Romans but also significantly shaped Eastern Europe and Christianity. However, the wealth of the Byzantine Empire attracted many enemies. Crusaders, turkish tribes and the Ottomans attacked Byzantium many times. But why was the Byzantine Empire getting weaker? And what are the reasons for the downfall of this rich and mighty Empire.
Historically, the decline of the Eastern Roman Empire began many decades before the fall of Constantinople. Failed reforms, rising corruption and a disunited society were bound to lead to the fall of the Byzantine Empire and the end of Medieval Era.
