Scientists have just discovered something massive hiding on the edge of the observable universe. Today, we take a look at what scientists have just discovered on the edge of the observable universe.
The discovery of a brand new galaxy is always intriguing. Abell2744 Y1 is one such galaxy which lies on the very edge of our observable universe. This galaxy is an estimated 50 times smaller than our own Milky Way at about 2,300 light-years in width. The shocking element is that despite its tiny size, it produces ten times the number of stars than our the Milky Way does. It also has a ‘redshift’ of eight; redshifts measure a galaxy’s wavelength due to the universe’s expansion - until now, most galaxies have had a wavelength redshift of seven, this proving it is on the very edge of our understanding.
