Pyramid Lake is a beautiful, A 30-mile long oasis in the land-locked American state of Nevada. It is visited by journalist John Pilger for his spotlight on the plight of the Indians whose tribe, the Paiute, have lived on its shores for four thousand years, their existence dependent on the fish to be found in its waters. But their way of life has been seeping away from them throughout most of this century and has now reached a critical level because the Truckee River, the water source for the lake, was dammed and partially diverted away from the lake by white settlers to irrigate their own farmlands.
